Traditional training courses are well known to have limited effectiveness when teaching technical content. The conventional approach of starting from basic principles, and building towards a detailed analysis of a current area of technology has a logically pleasing structure, but invariably leaves attendees floundering in a sea of data and information.
At tsc we have developed a methodology to overcome these difficulties. This encompasses:
- an historical perspective on technology development
- a review of the outcomes or attributes which the technology is expected to deliver
- an overview of the process stream, its evolution, and which part is responsible for which attribute
- a more detailed analysis of the causal relationship
In this way, the attendee is led gently from a world he/she understands into the technical depth of the subject.
We also augment our training with extensive hands-on workshops - these can be computer-based, or pen and paper exercises, or actual physical experiments (depending on the subject area).
We also strongly believe there is a limit to what can be achieved by this type of seminar-based training: for more significant improvement in staff competency, we strongly advocate discovery-based learning methods.
